Identification of cultures and consulting service
We will help you with the identification of bacteria and filamentous fungi or provide professional expertise in the form of seminars, training or consultations.
Identification of bacteria and filamentous fungi
The CCM employees are well-trained professionals with many years of experience in the identification of bacteria and filamentous fungi, which they routinely perform for basic and applied research, agriculture, the food industry, and biotechnology.
Bacterial identification
- phenotypic characterization of the culture (morphological characterization, physiological and biochemical conventional tests, commercial identification kits, BIOLOG system)
- rep-PCR fingerprinting with (GTG)5, REP, BOX, and ERIC primers
- automated ribotyping with the EcoRI restriction enzyme using the RiboPrinter system
- fatty acid analysis (FAME) using the MIDI Sherlock system
Identification of microscopic fungi
- morphological characterization of the culture
- sequence analysis of the ITS rDNA region and additional genes depending on the identified group
Additional services
- isolation of strains from mixed cultures
- isolation of bacteria and microscopic fungi from material samples
- determination of colony-forming units (CFU) in samples
Conditions for accepting cultures for identification
-
We identify bacteria and filamentous fungi that can be routinely cultivated.
-
We accept filamentous fungi cultures for identification only by prior arrangement.
-
We do not identify bacteria and fungi obligately pathogenic to humans and animals.
-
We accept pure cultures for identification. By prior arrangement, you can also supply mixed cultures or a sample of material.
-
Ship cultures in tubes legibly marked and secured against damage during transport.
-
In the order, state the basic information about the culture: the source of isolation, cultivation conditions, i.e. medium, temperature, humidity, relation to oxygen, etc.
-
We are not responsible for the viability of the cultures sent for identification. After completing the identification and reporting to the customer, the cultures are discarded. Therefore, send subcultures for identification and keep the original culture.
-
At your request, we can lyophilize the identified cultures. We can also ensure their long-term maintenance in our collection.
-
If we are interested in including your identified cultures in the collection, we will ask you for consent to deposit.
-
In the event of unsuccessful identification or isolation from the sample, we charge only the necessary costs of the performed work.
-
We treat the information you provide about your cultures and the results of our identification as strictly confidential.
The identification and isolation of cultures is charged according to the price list of services.
Consulting service
The collection offers professional consultations mainly in the field of:
- taxonomy of bacteria and filamentous fungi
- their isolation, cultivation, identification and long-term storage
- patent strains
-
safety of work with microorganisms
