RNDr. Luděk Sehnal, Ph.D. appointed as the new Head of the Czech Collection of Microorganisms
As of 1 February 2026, the leadership of the Czech Collection of Microorganisms will be assumed by RNDr. Luděk Sehnal, Ph.D.
On 27 February 2026, our facility was visited by students enrolled in the Microbiological Excursions course, intended for biology and biochemistry students at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University.
Guided by the collection curator, Dr Dana Nováková, the visitors had the opportunity to explore the laboratory facilities and culture depositories, and to learn about methods used for the long-term preservation of microorganisms. The programme also included a lecture by Dr Monika Laichmanová on the Czech Antarctic Research Programme. During the lecture, students learned about the research activities of the main scientific disciplines conducting long-term monitoring in Antarctica, as well as the operation of the J. G. Mendel Station on James Ross Island and the field research tent camp on Nelson Island.
We thank the students for their visit and look forward to welcoming them again next semester!
